Everyday People by Arrested Development

I think that the overall message of this song is to demonsrate how rude some black people are and the extent they will go to make you stoop to their level. This is a prime example of how you, a person minding his own buisness, can become the target of violence by another person of color whose under the influence of ignorance intensified by alcohol. It also shows how you can be provoked into a fight that you tried to avoid.
The best part of the song for me was when the rapper described the fight. The verse went something like "that's the story yall of a black man actin like a nigga and gettin stomped by an African". If I had to explain this to my grandmother I would probably tell her that sometimes you can't always "turn the left cheeck" like she would say. This person had to stand up for himself and defend his honor. A Black man (Black as in an outfit; a person who has not completely identified with their heritage ; an individual who has overcome adversity), is acting like a nigga(a thug; person with who has no respect; the lowest level of what's considered to be Black) gettin stomped by an African(Rich in color;a person of great strength;an individual who is very well versed in what it means to be Black; considered to be the highest class of Black; wears the vibrent colors of their ancestors). I know some maynot agree with my description but these are just my personal feelings.
The chorus just says how this person is everyday people. I think this verse is self explanitory. This person is simply saying that this is what happens to everyday people.
This song is important to me because it doen't condone violence but is not afraid to do what is neccessary to survive. I like how the woman in the song is refered to as a Black Queen. Alot of rappers don't say that about women these days instead they exploit them. This person cared about the woman and could not stand back and allow the guys to keep grabbing her in an inappropriate manner.
The fact that this person was dressed different than the average person that also made him a target to these unruely individuals. I learned through this that it is ok to be different and sometimes people will make fun of you because they don't understand what your representing.
This song has already gone down in Hip Hop history. Everyday People by Arrested Development is talked about frequently in my Hip Hop book. This group has added great meaning to Hip Hop and has stood out among the Gansta rappers. Arrested Development is in a genre that includes NWA and Mc Lite to name a few. These are artists that have voiced political concerns and were non-violent. With Everyday People even after the so called fight the young lady at end says that the morale of the story was violence was is not the answer. The name Arrested Development is very unique. I believe that the name stands for a people who wanted to flourish but is being held back by some person;group;or maybe even society.
Even today you still here Everyday People being played on the radio as if it came out not too long ago. Ienjoy this song and those around me enjoy it as well. Its an uplifting song that makes you feel happy and proud to be of African decent. It is a privilage to know that Hip Hop like this exsists!

Artist vs. Industry: Go!
What makes an artist authentic?
In order for an artist to be authentic he/she should be original. The artist should have unique rhymes and beats. The artist should make all their lyrics. The artist can recieve help from other song writters but at least 90% of their work should come directly from them. Also the artist should be a rapper because he/she that is their passion. The artist should not be in it for the money or fame. This would be a fake rapper if they only did it for the money. The artist should tell the truth. What they say in their rhymes should be a reflection on their experiences. The artist should not mislead their audiences in to believing a false idenity. Bottom line an artist should be them selves in order to be authentic.
I'm just doing what I do best and that's what makes good music, and that's how you can relate to people. Snoop Dogg

Favorite Hip Hop Song Ever
On the surface this seems like a much easir topic than it
actually is. The fact is 90% of my time I am listening to rap be it on
the radio, my ipod, or just some dude with street dreams so it is
hard to process just one so I broke it down. My favorite artists are
Jay-Z and Biggie. I was goin to pick juicy but I'm pretty sure that is
a universal favorite that a lot of people picked. So I decided to go
with the song "Can I Live" on Jay-z's Reasonable doubt album.
This is by far my favorite album and this was the first song I always
turned to. I think it is worthy of the best ever title because the
instrumental was one of the best smooth riding beats ever and the
lyrical content and metaphoric use in this song is unmatched and
honestly admirable. It breaks down the inner workings of a person
that has sturggled through poverty for years and now has escaped
the situation and is happy and ready to live his life. But people are
quick to place judgement on you and I think in this song he is
asking critics to hold the jury on him until he gets out his system
what he needs to after escaping conditions no one wan t to endure.
Its only natural to want to be able to do new things and more of the
old things you like when you are financially able to.
My mind is infested, with sick thoughts that circle
like a Lexus, if driven wrong it's sure to hurt you
Dual level like duplexes, in unity, my crew and me
commit atrocities like we got immunity
You guessed it, manifest it in tangible goods
Platinum Rolexed it, we don't lease
we buy the whole care, as you should

on detonation, overload the mind of a said patient
When it balls to steam, it comes to it
we all fiends gotta do it, even righteous minds go through this

This is my favorite passage from the song he starts off by saying when you have
nothing and want everything your mind will wonder with many devious thoughts of how
to change your situation and he says they circle in you head and if you do the wrong thing
with those thoughts it can lead to your destruction. He says we commit atrocities or
horrible acts and act as if it's ok because we hav e a viable excuse of property but does
doesn't make us immune to God's raft. We usually celebrate the wrong doing and the
money that comes with it by manifesting it into something that your peers can see and
give you power, material things like jewelry and cars. He said our history meaning black
history and the values passed down from family or just people in the hood is to have the
most jewelry as he said bond with jewellers and watch for intruders. The intruders being
our own people who quickly get jealous and want what you have. So he says he stepped it
up and is on a different level of thinking than others and evaluates situations better and he
surrounded himself he said with lieutenants around him that shared his thinking and was
really about money and not the bs. He says let's get the money but it will be as tedious
tasks and he will keep one eye up basically meaning he won't ever let anyone catch him
