2PAC LYRICS - Military Minds

2PAC LYRICS - Military Minds

Real hip hop is defined as true to ones original nature; thus being true to one's self. In the lyrics of Military Minds Tupac used the words " Tell me where my soldiers at/Put your pistols in the air/ Where my soldiers/ My true rollers/ Yes/ It just doesn't quit/ Yes/ This is the real hip hop shit/ Yes/ Fuck what you heard/ From the ghetto to the burbs/ Know we meant every word/ Where my soldiers". Tupac is speaking to hip hop artist being prepared for battle. The real hip hop is about being ready for any thing at any time and at any place.

The words my true soldiers give listners an idea that not all soldiers will be real; as with hip hop not all artist will be real. The lyrics from the ghetto to the burbs speak to hip hop having broken through bariers, we know now that hip hop is enjoyed by all races, classes and by individuals from all socio-economic backgrounds. So the questions remains, what defines hip hop? Hip hop is defined as being real. How would one define real? Real is defined as being true to ones self. If an artist is aware enough to know that hip hop encompasses both, he or she is on the road to being known as a true "REAL" hip hop artist!

Hip Hop V. Industy: Real Hip Hop

"Hip hop just died this mornin'
And she's dead, she's dead"-Nas Hip Hop Is Dead

This is an interview Jeezy had in which he comment on the statement hip hop is dead and i'm on Jeezy's side in the situation.

A lot of people these days constantly make the statement that hip is dead or ask the question where have all the rappers gone and without knowing it are making ignorant statements. To be able to say that hip hop is dead you have to fully understand what it is. Hip Hop represents more of a culture than anything and is a living an breathing movement. Hip hop can change just like a person can and has the power to connect with someone emotionally and mentally. Many people believe that today's rappers put out garbage but what they are doing is changing peoples perceptions of hip hop and even by putting out "garbage" they are causing more conscious rappers to be brought into the game so then we have a mix of different types of artist. An example of that is when Nas made the song and statement that Hip HOp is dead. His song was influenced by the way Hip Hop was going and from his statement more people were influenced to diss him or rap about what he is rapping about. With that said how can a worldwide accepted phenomenon like hip hop truly die or cease to exist? Every time someone says hip hop is dead they are the ones killing it. Saying that something is dead just because its not the same as when you first heard it or used to like it is like saying you don't lie your little sister anymore because she doesn't watch cartoons like she used. People have the power to change and still be themselves and so does hip hop.

Artist: Trina Featuring Trick Daddy Song: Da Baddest Bitch Albulm: Da Baddest Bitch

[Trick Daddy (Trina)]
Who's bad? Who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's bad?
(Wait hold up)
Who's bad?

[Trina]
I'm representin'[representing] for the bitches
All eyes on your riches
No time for the little dicks
You see the bigger the dick
The bigger the bank, the bigger the Benz
The better the chance to get close to his rich friends
I'm going after the big man
G-string make his dick stand
Make it quick then slow head by the night stand

Like lightning I wanna[want a] nigga with a wedding ring
Bank accounts in the Philippines
Blank note to take everything
See I fuck him in the living room
While his children home
I make him eat it while my period on
A little nasty ho[hoe], red-bone but a classy ho[hoe]
Young jazzy ho[hoe] and don't be scared
If you're curious just ask me hoes
And yes dick sucking comes quite natural
I'm da baddest bitch what

[Trick Daddy (Trina)]
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?

[Trina (Trick Daddy)]
See I hate hoes who take their niggas on talk shows and for hoes
(Y'all sold fool)
See if I'm ever crossed or ever caught up in the cross
And if it's your fault ho[hoe], I'm going off ho[hoe]
See I'm unemployed with no boss ho[hoe]
While y'all sucking dick for free I'm broke off ho[hoe]
See it pays to be the boss ho[hoe]
Shit that's how you floss hoes
X-rated elevated, buck naked
And I'd probably fuck your daddy
if your mammie[mamma] wasn't playa hatin'[hating]
Cause I'm da baddest bitch
I'm da baddest bitch what

[Trick Daddy (Trina)]
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?

[Trina]
I got game for young hoes
Don't grow to be a dumb hoe, that's a no-no
See if you off the chains
Stay ahead of the game, save up buy a condo
Sell the pussy by the grands
And in months you own a Benz
Another week a set of rims
See if I had the chance to be a virgin again
I'd be fucking by the time I'm ten
See off glass is my motto
Dick suckin in the auto
Quick fuckin 'bout to follow
On the back of the truck
Or when I'm dead ass drunk
But I don't get high though
I never took it up the ass
Often tried but I pass
And from what I heard it ain't bad
I'm a curious bitch who took off to get broke off
From the baby's dad
Cause I'm da baddest bitch

[Trick Daddy (Trina)]
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(Shit I'm the baddest bitch)
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
Who's bad? Who's, who's bad?
(That's right I'm the baddest bitch)

Who's bad?

I consider the overall message of this song is not only to let the world know that Trina considers herself to be one of the baddest women in the game, as well as informing women on how and what she does to keep her men spending their riches on her. The bolded lines are what I consider to be the best part of the song. To me she is pretty much telling you that she stands for women with their eyes on male's riches. She does not like little penis, she pretty much states that the bigger the penis the better and the more he has to offer and the closer you are to his rich friends.

A lot of people may not feel that this song has much importance, and me myself am not quite sure if it does. This song informs women how Trina got to her riches and was able to maintain them. She tells the world why she considers herself to be the baddest. This song should go down in Hip-Hop history because Trina is the Baddedest and this song is for all the bad bitches looking to get a man for his riches.

Jay Z QUOTE

He who does not feel me is not real to me,Therefore he doesn't exist. So, poof... vamoose, son of a bitch.Jay-Z

                                      Nas

"Some people say I'm saying what they wanna say. Some people don't agree. Some people are outraged. Some people want to see what the album is about. To me, hip-hop's been dead for years. We all should know that, come on. "

You start to thinking about creative moments-- bliss. When everything was all good. You realize that in comparison to the way hip-hop started off, where we should be at right now is not there. Not to say everybody's wack. Or Nas is wack. But I'm trying toprovoke thought for the next up and coming MCs to do something different.

How are the kids going to be inspired to create something innovative when they're being influenced by some of the s**t that's happening now, which is about just copying andturning it into a business? You never get a chance to know about Muddy Waters or the s**t that really meant something. You don't even care.

What defines real Hip Hop? HONESTY, LOYALTY, RESPECT,COURAGE, THANKFUL
Hip hop is a musical genre which developed alongside hip hop culture, defined by key stylistic elements such as rapping, DJing, sampling, scratching and beatboxing. What your life experience is , the way a person feels inside come out into the hip hop world

What makes an artist authentic?

Being creative, unique, honest , real and takes hip hop serious lyrically repsected.

Artist vs.Industry

‘Why am I fighting to live, if I’m just living to fight?
Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight
Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try?
Why am I dying to live, if I’m just living to dye?
Someone tell me why’(Tupac)

Real hip hop has come and gone away. Back in the day, hip hop always had some meaning. Now it’s either bitch this or nigga that. Beats is what makes songs today (artist such as soulja boy).Rappers now don’t tell stories in their music or write their own material. Songs back then had to rhyme, now all they do is repeat the same thing over and over. Hip Hop today is destructive to our community because rappers are acting as if drugs and killing each other is alright. Society has changed so much and I believe that this is a huge reason.

Controversial songs is songs that has a point to it.Tupac shakur was both a controversial and authentic artist,he has touched so many topics such as abortions, drugs, and even talked about the war.He also talks about GOD a lot.Hip Hop can be a lot of different things and different people can also be hip hop. What happened to art, poetry, and the drums.

Rappers can be diverse and still be authentic.Eminem is a perfect example of both topics. He has different sounds for his music. He rap fast, slow, goofy, and he is angry at times.

tupac Pictures, Images and Photos

I chose this picture because it relates to society today, but in a good way.The picture says if you live by the gun, then you dye by the gun.Tupac is basically saying ,If you gone live that hard lifestyle, then you will dye by that hard lifestyle and for every actions its an equal and opposite reaction.I believe this is so true because rappers portray their self as hard and rich.People on the street try to be like these rappers and is willing to do anything to get like them. Not even realizing that they cant live that lifestyle and end up putting their self in a situation that they cant get out of or that's not for them.Society is listening to rappers say money over everything and they willing to steal and kill for money because in their mind its everything, not even realizing the consequences for their actions.

Artist vs. Industry: Go!

Photobucket

I think real hip hop is just that: REAL. I think in order to have a real hip hop song it has to relate to the artist in some way. For instance, a rapper who grew up in the suburbs should write and rap about his/her difficulties in the suburbs, instead of making up stories of how he/she grew up on the streets. Not only are they deceiving the public by doing this but they also take away from the songs value and authenticity. I don't think anything happened to the 'real' hip hop, seeing as the definition of real hip hop varies from person to person. In my opinion "the real hip hop" is still existent in today's music in artists like Eminem, Jay-Z, and Lil' Wayne. I see it in these artist's because of the fact that they are all truly original. They are all innovators and trend setters. These three artists alone inspire and produce so many knock-offs of themselves. I can't think of a rapper today that hasn't emulated one of these three in some way. I just think most artists today are unoriginal and use too many 'effects' when rapping(i.e auto tune).

I think authenticity in hip hop should be defined by how the artist delivers the message in his/her songs. A lot of the time artists joke around on tracks, rarely do we get to see the artists true feelings on a particular subject. It seems nowadays that most artists are in the music industry just for the glory, whatever happened to just expressing one's self through his/her talents. Artists that make music to express themselves are authentic to me. I think an authentic artist most definitely writes their own lyrics. The lyrics should come from the artists soul to not from other people's perspectives. I also think to be authentic artists should 'practice what they preach'. I do think that an artist can be diverse and still be authentic. Jay-z has a clothing brand, cologne, etc but is still authentic. Its all a matter of whether the artist sells themselves out. He does what he does because he's an entrepreneur, not because he's desperate for attention;there's a huge difference.

A lot of the time when an artist truly speaks whats on their mind and just doesn't hold back its called being 'controversial'. I think most of the time what makes a song controversial is the topic in which is being addressed. For instance, a lot of songs were controversial after the war in Iraq started because a lot of rappers were against Bush. Usually a song stir's up controversy when the artist refuses to conform with the rest of the nation. Mentioning political views, religious views or any opinion that isn't shared by the majority is controversial.

"Hip-hop is supposed to uplift and create, to educate people on a larger level and to make a change." -Doug E. Fresh

"Hip-hop is definitely not what it used to be, which was creative, original music. I want kids of this generation to see that everything is cool, that there's some kind of unity in hip-hop. We all found something that's really important to us, and music is all we've really got. " -Missy Elliot

"Back in the day, if someone said that hip-hop and rap was a fad, that was a joke to me because they just didn't know what they were talking about."-Jam Master Jay

Artist Vs Industry: Go!

What is real hip hop to me? Its a combination of culture, lyrics, beats, dance, art and staying true to one's identity. Hip hop is real. Let me define real! REAL- is never FAKE!!! You stand for what you believe. In your lyrics and the way you dress. Maybe you mindset and the way you express yourself. Real Hip Hop has purpose and reasonings behind everything you do and say. It makes a statement and never to be forgotton. So what happened to Real HIP HOP??? I wonder that myself. Nobody in the Indusrty is really being real to them or me. Where is the statement you as an individual is trying to portray with your music? Real Hip Hop Left and I wonder will it ever return. Because music is changing daily, will we ever see REAL HIP HOP again.

Authencity is defined by what you believe and how you feel. Truth! Are you true and real and come with your own style. Are you trying to explain something to me through your life experiences or just selling me a dream. Yes as an artist you can be diverse and be authentic. It is Truth! Are you being true to self and one's culture. Hip Hop world is designed for all individual but never betray who you are as a person.

Controverisal song has a mean and a reason. It is trying to influence and demonstrate something to you. It might be polticial or not, all depends on how you look into the lyrics and the mean behind the song. What make a song controversial is the facts it can be looked upon with different views. Most like only two, positive or negative. What is your reaction to the song when you first heard it? "Hip Hop World please come back!!! Rhyme, poetry, life, experiences, dreams do come true. Hip Hop come back to me, Show me the real you!!!"- Audrey

Eve Love Is Blind

LOVE IS BLIND- EVE "Ruff Ryder's First Lady (album) Produced by Swizz Beatz

Love Is Blind lyrics -http://www.moron.nl/lyrics.php?id=30276&artist=Eve

Hey, yo I don't even know you and I hate you
See all I know is that my girlfriend used to date you
How would you feel if she held you down and raped you?
Tried and tried, but she never could escape you
She was in love and I'd ask her how? I mean why?
What kind of love from a nigga would black your eye?
What kind of love from a nigga every night make you cry?
What kind of love from a nigga make you wish he would die?
I mean shit he bought you things and gave you diamond rings
But them things wasn't worth none of the pain that he brings
And you stayed, what made you fall for him?
That nigga had the power to make you crawl for him
I thought you was a doctor be on call for him
Smacked you down cause he said you was too tall for him, huh?
That wasn't love, babygirl you was dreamin'
I could have killed you when you said your seed was growin' from his semen

[1] - Love is blind, and it will take over your mind
What you think is love, is truly not
You need to elevate and find

[Repeat 1]

I don't even know you and I'd kill you myself
You played with her like a doll and put her back on the shelf
Wouldn't let her go to school and better herself
She had a baby by your ass and you ain't giving no help
Uh-huh big time hustler, snake motherfucker
One's born everyday and everyday she was your sucker
How could you beat the mother of your kids?
How could you tell her that you lover her?
Don't give a fuck if she lives
She told me she would leave you, I admit it she did
But came back, made up a lie about you missing your kids
Sweet kisses, baby ain't even know she was your mistress
Had to deal with fist fights and phone calls from your bitches
Floss like you possess her, tellin' me to mind my business
Said that it was her life and stay the fuck out of it
I tried and said just for him I'll keep a ready clip

[Repeat 1 (2x)]

I don't even know you and I want you dead
Don't know the facts but I saw the blood pour from her head
See I laid down beside her in the hospital bed
And about two hours later, doctors said she was dead
Had the nerve to show up at her mother's house the next day
To come and pay your respects and help the family pray
Even knelt down on one knee and let a tear drop
And before you had a chance to get up
You heard my gun cock
Prayin' to me now, I ain't God but I'll pretend
I ain't start your life but nigga I'mma bring it to an end
And I did, clear shots and no regrets, never
Cops comin' in, watch me going to jail
Nigga whatever my bitch, fuck it my sister
You could never figure out even if I let you live
What our love was all about
I considered her my blood and it don't come no thicker

[Repeat 1]

*The message of Love is Blind is that you believe someone loves and and no matter how bad the hurt you, you sometimes continue to go back. That what you think love is, is really not that. I man will beat and harm you and that never love. You are so in love that you lose your self worth and so does he. he then will beat you for the last time before you are not on earth anymore.Look at what going on in life and remember that you deserve more. Love is Blind at times!!!

[He gave you big time gifts and made you feel like a queen, but he harmed you everytime it seemed. Why would you stay with someone who beat you, what attracted you to him. You would do anything he say and jumped when he told you too. You had so much going for you that he never wanted to see you above him. Then I found out you havein his baby.]

This song Love is Blind should go down in Hip Hop History because its so many women who are in abusive relationship and they need to see that if you dont get out when you have the chance it will surely have consequences. That a man sometimes think they are too powerful and when you have a good friend that is trying to help, you should let them.

Eve did her thang on this song. She expressed strong emotional on the topic of woman abuse by a man. She showed that a female rapper, a female period we are just above men. You can do the same things they can and we may just do it better. You should never believe that woman do not have power to their voice and their movement.

Love is Blind was definitely an eye opener for woman. This should show woman to stand strong and never give up. Love is Blind and you should sit down and think about life changes. Think about YOUR life because that's the one that count. A woman anthem of what not to be.

Artist vs. Industry GO! (Define Real Hip-Hop)

The lyrics, artist, and beats to me is what defines real hip hop. Lyrics play an essential role in defining hip-hop. The lyrics are what gives the song a heart without the lyrics the listener has nothing to relate to. In order for the audience to relate to the lyrics the lyrics must have substance. The listener has to be able to listen to the words yet be able to feel the beat. The listener should be able to listen to the words and zone out to his/her own life experiences mirroring what the rapper is conveying in the song. That way the listener get the full effect of the message, story or experience of the song and they can enjoy it.
"I think real hip-hop is just a matter of expression. I think it's just about basically what you feel and how you feel about music, how you feel about the streets, and how feel about life and reality as a point of being able to say what you want to say and being free about it. You know not holding back just letting it come from the heart." To me this is true because it's basically an opinion and everyone has one although they are not the same.
Hip-hop is well known for it's beats usually the beat is the first part a listener hears when the song starts. It is the soul of the song, rather it's a hard beat suggesting that it's a party song or a slow beat that would remind you of a good time. The lyrics, artist, and beats express what listeners are feeling or wished they could say but don't have the platform or voice to say it.Thus those three factors in my opinion define real hip-hop.

Rap on Rap: Why is Rap not BLACK Music?

As we all know African Americans started the rap nation. Everytime you turn on the T.V. you see a black man rapping on a music station. But Black people do not own rap. Even though, the rap industry has started with and is dominated by African Americans but we don't own rap music. Music is a form of an expression by anyone.

Why is Rap Not Music?
I cannot really debate on why rap isn't music because it is music. Who is it to say it isn't music just because the rappist is talking fast and doing no runs and not singing high notes?

Artist VS Industry Post

Hear what happend to real hip hop. Real hip hop died i'd say about 10 years ago along with Tupac, Big Pun, and Biggie Smalls. Real hip hop is about stories based on real life struggles and experiences in which occurs with black people living in urban communities. Real hip hop also is defined as culture and form of ground breaking music and self expression with elements that consisted of the elements of graffiti art, DJing, MCing, and breaking. Today Hip-Hop is considered to be dead in the mainstream because so-called mainstream Hip-Hop doesn't have the elements of hip-hop and have no meaning. Things that should be defined to make hip hop authintic are if the lyrics are meaningful to real hip hop. Yes and artist can still be diverse with hip hop staying real. What makes an artist authentic is how he expresses himself in his songs. Things that make a song controversial are topics discussed in a song that are socially deviant. Things with extreme violence and sexuality in them. I.E LIL WAYNE

Artist vs. Industry

Since the early years of hip hop I believed things have changed dramatically and I don’t think any of the founding fathers were expecting the puppetry that goes on today in the music industry. It started out as a thing that people did for fun in response to a good DJ and was more about expressing feelings on things not so much as to make money. Today it is the exact opposite because you can be the most soulful and true to the roots lyrical artist and be taken for granted by the labels and ignorant fans if you cant produce that one big lollipop hit radio song. Some artist today come out with a good catchy beat and a dance that will sell records and the record companies love them but people that really like good hip hop lyrical music want to run through a wall when they hear the mess selling the records today.

They use to have places back in the day that rappers would gather along with a crowd and battle each other’s lyrics, most time sharing the same beat just to see who is the best. A lot of these took place in basements and underground separated from society where people could go and just vibe. Great old school rappers started out in the basements battling there isn’t much of that today and rappers like Soulja Boy and even Gucci Mane wouldn’t last a round in the places where hip hop was founded. Now the focus is more on the hook of the song rather than the content, what will sound good in the club as opposed to who made the better metaphors in their lyrics.

I think mainstream America has stolen hip hop from us and I don’t really seeing it coming back in the pure form that it once was because it simply doesn’t sell records anymore. Smoking kush and counting money while cleaning the .40 is all people want to hear about today. There are a hand full of rappers that stay true to their content like Jay-Z, Common, Lupe and couple others but Common and Lupe are underrated and will never be the face of hip hop or recognized as they might have been in the earlier years. The industry definitely runs the business now days because once they sign you they turn you into what they want you to be and how your music should sound and if you give to much lip they simply find another mule with a dream. Like old school Chuck D said in The 13th Message, “ They trying to make hardcore rap disappear.” They have just about done it because even the hardcore rappers save how they really rap for mix tapes or maybe 2 or 3 songs on the album everything is about the next hook that will make you some money quick.

Artist v. Industry:Go What is real hip hop?

Nas said on a youtube clip "We Represent The Real Hip Hop" on his first album he had no celebrity appearances, so that made him the best lyricist. I took from that if a rapper claims he/she is a real writer you do not need another celebrity to help you make your own album stand out. A real hip hop artist makes his own music to make real hip hop. Real hip hop is telling about what you have been through and how you overcame it. When the lyrics are meaningful and it changes minds. Most hip hop we hear or see now is totally different from back in the '80's and '90's. Today's hip hop should be called "Hip Flop" because all you hear about is rappers bragging about how much they have and degrading women. Not to say it was not like that back in the day but most of the lyrics back then had meaning to it.
The lyrics is what makes hip hop controversial. Sometimes it can be arguable but touchy. Some hip hop has no type of style it is just here for the beat and that is all. Why do you listen to hip hop if it has no meaning? When I listen to it (some hip hop) I hear "realness", authenticity. An artist is real if he relates his music to real life: what he has been through and also relates to the people.

Best 4 - 8 Lines

Come on come on,

I see no changes wake up in the morning and I ask myself,

is life worth living should I blast myself?

I'm tired of bein' poor & even worse I'm black,

my stomach hurts so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch,

Cops give a damn about a negro,

pull the trigger kill a nigga he's a hero,

Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares,

Meaning for these 4 - 8 lines and the rest of this song.

These 4 - 8 lines show great meaning of Tupac Shakur expressing himself while he was growing up. In these lines it tells a story of poverty, poor communities, criminal violence, and drug abuse. There are problems of racism, which is addressed when he says, “I'm tired of bein' poor and even worse I'm black…Cops give a damn about a Negro? Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he's a hero.” This statement expresses how hard life is to be an underprivileged Black man in the United States, with a focus on issues with police brutality. There, is lack of social influence and responsibily as in the verse "Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares," shows that no one in society is much concerned with black children having access to deadly drugs. The chorus is stating that not much has changed for blacks and that they don,t see anything changing or getting better.

5 Paragraphs on the importance of this song

This song is so important for so many reasons. As we know, the Hip Hop movement is one of the most misunderstood social movements in the history of the United States. Although most parents discourage their children from listening to this style of music, much of it contains the positive messages of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s and 70’s. Even rappers known for their violent history, such as Tupac Shakur, have made songs promoting peace and equality in the U.S. The most prominent of these songs is “Changes,” which was released later in his album Greatest Hits. This song, through diagnosis, prognosis, and motivation, is a small example of this large movement in which one race has come together through the decades to fight for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

By stating the problem, this song challenges the rules set by society and works towards equality. In the song “Changes,” by Tupac Shakur's problems are clearly stated within its lyrics. The first issue is racism. As the song progresses, Tupac makes additional references to blatant racism. Although these claims cannot be proven, his central idea and motivation for writing the song cannot be ignored. He expands upon this idea when he states, “the penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks.” This line is meant to insinuate that a black man is more likely to go to jail than a white man.

Another problem Tupac mentions is the poverty, drug abuse, and crime that he witnesses among his inner city communities. This is exemplified when he sings, “‘I made a G today’ But you made it in a sleazy way. Sellin' crack to the kids. "I gotta get paid’” and in the line, “And I ain't never did a crime I ain't have to do.” Through these lyrics, Tupac justifies the unsafe and immoral acts as the means that impoverished people must resort to in order to survive. Drug dealing and theft are common themes in his music about inner city areas that present virtually no opportunities to improve one’s quality of living. In addition to drug related crimes, Tupac also alludes to constant acts of violence in the inner cities. “Give 'em guns, step back, and watch 'em kill each other. ‘It's time to fight back’, that's what Huey said.

Two shots in the dark now Huey's dead,” for example, discusses how simple it is for people to buy weapons and cause harm. Representative of this violent street mentality is the manner which “Huey” attempted to solve his problems in the song. In doing so it leads to his death when the people he wishes to fight against retaliate with gunfire. Clearly Tupac is trying to send the message that this behavior is not a proper way to find a means to an end. If they intend to resolve the conflicts within the inner city, then there must be “changes.”

Tupac states the proper way to achieve harmony in the city through his ways, which is declared several times throughout the song. Tupac first says that he would “love to go back to when we played as kids.” However, he understands that this is not a real solution, and continues, “but things change, and that's the way it is.” This shows his recognition that life is not as simple as one sometimes wishes it could be, and that one must adapt to these new surroundings. This is why I think that this song should go down in hip hop history.

Artist vs. Industry, Go ! What makes a song controversial

I think a song is controversial when the artist talks about things that society deem taboo. For example was sex talked about in song's? The answer is yes but it was more subtle than "Pop that Coochie" by 2 Live Crew and "Me So Horny". Are how could people not have any regards to the police like "Fuck the Police" by N.W.A. From my childhood I remember some of the back lash that rap got, saying that it was bad and how the government in some ways were trying to ban it. I remember Luke being arrested and I remember Delores Tucker always on the news fighting what people considered 'Gangsta Rap".

I also think that songs that make people uncomfortable to talk about are controversial. What I mean by that statement is that when a song talks about a topic that people want to talk about but are just too scared to admit it. For example "White Lines" by Grandmaster Flash. Everyone knew it was an crack epidemic going on in the black neighborhoods but were too afraid to admit it.

I think the only reason why something is deemed controversial is because people sometimes want to be blind tp what's going on. Also I feel like something's are blown out of proportion when it come to things like sex. When I was 10 and was watching "The Jukebox" video station, should've I have been watching 2 Live Crew video probably not, but I sure wasn't scarred for life watching it or thinking that I should act the way the females were acting in the video. Of course I know that some kids go in a completely direction but, I think that's when parents come in.
I think what makes an artist authentic is their sense of style, the way the spit they lyrics, or the issues they rap about.
Arrested Development is authentic in every sense of the word. This group is sure of who they are and the issues they rap about. they have their own unique style that alot of rap groups were not up on. Arrested Deveopment is a group that wasn't afraid to wear baggy clothes and locks. This is something that helped them to stand out in the rap world. Even in the song Everyday People the group talked about how they were made fun of because of their cloithing. On a different scale the clothing is what set them apart from the rest. The clohting in it self had a story to tell. the clothing represented their ansestors and life. when I say bagggy clothes I don't mean they were hangging off their behind like the rappers we see today. I mean that the women were not in tight fitting clothing. The women were represented just as the men, equal. They did this so that the focus was't on the womens bodies, and that did'nt take away from the lyrics. To me this was ground breaking, and some how my generation has replaced that with sex sells
Arrested Development rapped about our own people; black on black crime and how they wanted no parts of that type of life. From going back to Tennessee to Everydasy People Arreseted Develolpment wanted the world to see that it's not just the government making peoples lives bad, but it's one another. They wanted blacks to take a look at themselves before pointing the finger. That in itself is authentic. I mean to be able to challenge your own people to stop making excuses for themselves. Outside of that they made the point that your own kind don't want anything to do with you ,or may even be the death of you.
Arrested Development is authentic and in a league ot their own. Only a few will ,or have been as successful as them as they are. They were considered to be Bouisouise because of their style. Arrested Development has been critizied and talked about because of their stlye. At the end of the day you have to admitt that they foucused on alot of isses that rappers today dare to touch. Everyone is too busy blending in while Arrested Development is still standing out!

What Defines Real Hip-Hop???

""Lyrics" full of knowledge truth and understanding
"Hobbies" rapping is my only recreation"
Only 4 the Righteous from Tupac's book of poems The Rose That Grew From Concrete
What defines real hip-hop? I think what defines real hip-hop depends on how you discuss it. To anyone, anything that a rap artist "raps" about can be defined as real hip-hop. To another person, the way the rapper/s act, dress, and/or present themselves can be defined as real hip-hop. The topic can be broaden in so many ways and very different levels. To me, I define it as a struggle that is rapped about in a song. It can be a struggle of victory or a struggle of negative things. It can express feelings that any and everyone is/or has been through. It can be expressed through music and does not have to have a catchy flow like other songs. The clothes/ appearance can help express it, but I think what is important are the words that are used.
There are some rappers out there that rap about their political views, or just politics in general. That can be considered real hip-hop because the rappers are voicing their opinion about things that they think are wrong or right. They are rapping about it in a way where if they get their point across and out to enough people, it can change their political views or change the politician's point of view. Rappers who rap about anything that can help educate or inform the people who are listening to it can be considered real hip-hop. It is expressing things that people need to know and is something that they can use and take with them to the future. If it talks about the struggles that they have been through, it can be considered as real hip-hop. It can be where they talk about how rapping helped keep them alive, keeping them away from the streets. It can be where they talk about the things that is going on in the communities where they grew up, like drugs, people on the streets homeless, or just what they had to go through to get where they are today. I think that anything of truth, basically is considered real hip-hop.
Rappers who rap about anything that degrades women, other artists, or people in general is not considered real hip-hop. If they have to rap about all negativity to make sales, then it is not real hip-hop. Yes those things can be included in a struggle, but there are many different ways where the artist can approach it. I honestly believe that it is not real hip-hop, its just ignorance. So to me, real hip-hop does not thave to be clean, but as long as it is not degrading anyone and is educating the listeners it is real hip-hop. It can talk about their struggles and more than likely that will not be clean. It can be political and help other people think about their actions and help them with their everyday life. Real hip-hop is the best hip-hop.

Bulletproof by Raheem DaVaughn featuring Ludacris

Load It, Cock It, Aim and Shoot
Load It, Cock It, Aim and Shoot

Living like we bulletproof
We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
I say we load it, cock it, aim and shoot
Oh we load it, cock it, aim and shoot

Some will die over oil kill over land
Charge you for taxes and Blame Uncle Sam
Read you your rights and charge you for nothing
Now who’s really gangsta
And tell me who’s frontin’
Murder your sons, ravage your daughters
Here overseas and across the waters
Tanks and missiles, bombs and grenades
Inject the land with guns and aids

You better pray to the most high or who ever you praise
Politicians can’t help you they puppets to slaves
Trying to get paid and you are too
Whatcha gone do when the gun is pointed at you
Like bank robbers

Living like we bulletproof
We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(load it, cock it, aim and shoot)
We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(We gone die)
We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
(I say) We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(load it, cock it, aim and shoot)
Oh we load it, cock it, aim and shoot
Hey world

Get you a paper turn on the news
Ride through the hood I witness the blues
How can you ignore it it’s easy to spot it
A trap house, a liquor store and your city’s got it

And my city’s got it, and they city’s got it
This world is chaotic and love is symbolic
So life don’t get cherished, and our babies perish
And your babies perish now tell me who’s careless
Now who should I pray to what should I pray for
You can’t pay the preacher for your redemption
I know where we’re headed, I already read it
The good book done said it
Like cowboys and Indians

We just living like we bulletproof
We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(load it, cock it, aim and shoot)
We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(We gone die, living)
Living like we bulletproof
We bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
(I say) We load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(load it, cock it, aim and shoot)
Oh we load it, cock it, aim and shoot
(We gone die, living)

Ludacris
Luda! they say tomorrow’s not promised today
But today I promise if we don’t make our own way
Somebody’ll take it from us
Snatch it like rats to cheese
So, lord help me please cause I rather die
on my feet than to live on my knees
Living like I’m bulletproof
Clocking the glock and aim n shoot
My future’s ever clear a 180 proof
So I open the bottle then swallow my pride
And drink the pain away
I take shots and just lay up then fade away
Dreaming of betta days dreaming of betta pay
But we got our work cut out for us so we betta pray
Pray to uphold the week, not for eternal sleep
But if I die I pray the lord my soul to keep

Contreversey and the Everyday Life

The controversial lyrics of hip hop have been debated for decades. In the past decade thier has been a rapid increase in controversial lyrics, songs, and albums. But what exactly makes a song controversial? Is it the explict language, the deragtory refrence to women, or the constant mention of drugs. Let us not forget about the mention of murder and other problems that plague the community. Late rapper Tupac Shakur brought many controversial problems of the community to main stream with his 1991 song Brenda's Got A Baby. This song brought to light many controversial issues such as teen pregancy, illiterate children, and incest. This song was consider controversial because it was about a twelve year old girl. Though people of America feel these should topics should not be brought to light, industry heads constantly glorify them through the work of the artist.
This leads one to ask is hip hop authentic? If not what makes it authentic? Depending on the place you grew up many can say yes it's real. But for people that did not grow up around this, it can lead them to say maybe not. The primmary place that hip hop gets its authenticity is from the different places "hoods" of america. That being said brings us to the point that many industry heads are not from these hoods. But they constantly get to put their two cents in every song or album. Can it be authentic since many of them never set foot in the hood or since none have been in the enviornment of the hood. Rick James stated it best when he said, "If you ain't from the ghetto, don't come to the ghetto." He made this statement to various industry heads that kept puitting thier ideas into what was hood.

To conclude this, hip hop never existed. Everyone could define hip hop in their own words. It was just music put together that sounds nice. The nice beats makes the difference of the class group for various artists.

Rap on Rap

Why is rap not music?

Rap is not music because rap can be consumed as a rap of expressing yourself through words and lyrics clothes the way you dressed and how you come off far as the message you trying to send.

Why is rap music not black?

Rap has spread out through urban cities and also rap has also link to different interracial groups who got into the rap game, and they began to put together they own groups and also drew different audiences from all over

Everyday People by Arrested Development
Humanities 107-c
Prof.Younge
I think that the overall message of this song is to demonsrate how rude some black people are and the extent they will go to make you stoop to their level. This is a prime example of how you, a person minding his own buisness, can become the target of violence by another person of color whose under the influence of ignorance intensified by alcohol. It also shows how you can be provoked into a fight that you tried to avoid.
The best part of the song for me was when the rapper described the fight. The verse went something like "that's the story yall of a black man actin like a nigga and gettin stomped by an African". If I had to explain this to my grandmother I would probably tell her that sometimes you can't always "turn the left cheeck" like she would say. This person had to stand up for himself and defend his honor. A Black man (Black as in an outfit; a person who has not completely identified with their heritage ; an individual who has overcome adversity), is acting like a nigga(a thug; person with who has no respect; the lowest level of what's considered to be Black) gettin stomped by an African(Rich in color;a person of great strength;an individual who is very well versed in what it means to be Black; considered to be the highest class of Black; wears the vibrent colors of their ancestors). I know some maynot agree with my description but these are just my personal feelings.
The chorus just says how this person is everyday people. I think this verse is self explanitory. This person is simply saying that this is what happens to everyday people.
This song is important to me because it doen't condone violence but is not afraid to do what is neccessary to survive. I like how the woman in the song is refered to as a Black Queen. Alot of rappers don't say that about women these days instead they exploit them. This person cared about the woman and could not stand back and allow the guys to keep grabbing her in an inappropriate manner.
The fact that this person was dressed different than the average person that also made him a target to these unruely individuals. I learned through this that it is ok to be different and sometimes people will make fun of you because they don't understand what your representing.
This song has already gone down in Hip Hop history. Everyday People by Arrested Development is talked about frequently in my Hip Hop book. This group has added great meaning to Hip Hop and has stood out among the Gansta rappers. Arrested Development is in a genre that includes NWA and Mc Lite to name a few. These are artists that have voiced political concerns and were non-violent. With Everyday People even after the so called fight the young lady at end says that the morale of the story was violence was is not the answer. The name Arrested Development is very unique. I believe that the name stands for a people who wanted to flourish but is being held back by some person;group;or maybe even society.
Even today you still here Everyday People being played on the radio as if it came out not too long ago. Ienjoy this song and those around me enjoy it as well. Its an uplifting song that makes you feel happy and proud to be of African decent. It is a privilage to know that Hip Hop like this exsists!

See I was resting at the park minding my own
business as I kick up the treble tone
on my radio tape player box, right
just loud enough so folks could hear it's hype, see ?
Outta nowhere comes the woman I'm dating
investigation maybe she was demonstrating
But nevertheless I was pleased
My day was going great and my soul was at ease
until a group of brothers started bugging out
drinking the 40 oz, going the nigga route
Disrespecting my black queen
holding their crotches and being obscene
At first I ignored them cause see I know their type
They got drunk and got guns and they wanna fight
and they see a young couple having a time that's good
and their egos wanna test a brother's manhood
So they came to test Speech cause of my hair-do
and the loud bright colors that I wear [Boo !]
I was a target cause I'm a fashion misfit
and the outfit that I'm wearing brothers dissing it
Well I stay calm and pray the niggaz leave me be
but they're squeezing parts of my date's anatomy
Why, Lord, do brothers have to drill me ?
Cause if I start to hit this man they'll have to kill me

[CHORUS:]
I am everyday people (2x)

I told the niggaz please let us pass, friend
I said please cause I don't like killing Africans
but he wouldn't stop and I ain't Ice Cube
but I had to take the brother out for being rude
and like I said before I was mad by then
It took three or four cops to pull me off of him
But that's the story y'all of a black man
acting like a nigga and get stomped by an African

Artist vs. Industry: Go!

What makes an artist authentic?

In order for an artist to be authentic he/she should be original. The artist should have unique rhymes and beats. The artist should make all their lyrics. The artist can recieve help from other song writters but at least 90% of their work should come directly from them. Also the artist should be a rapper because he/she that is their passion. The artist should not be in it for the money or fame. This would be a fake rapper if they only did it for the money. The artist should tell the truth. What they say in their rhymes should be a reflection on their experiences. The artist should not mislead their audiences in to believing a false idenity. Bottom line an artist should be them selves in order to be authentic.

I'm just doing what I do best and that's what makes good music, and that's how you can relate to people. Snoop Dogg

Kid Cudi Highs an Lows Lyrics

Kid Cudi Highs N Lows Lyrics:

I be high when I split a dutch and fill it up
I be high when I get my money doubled up
I be high when a model wanna let me cut
I be high when I'm signing cus my diamonds blush

I be low when a nigga cant get away
I be low when I cant seem to make a way
I be low when I can't even feed myself
I be low when I realize I'm by myself

But I be high when I'm shopping for expensive clothes
I be high when I get what I couldn't before
I be high in the club while I'm poppin bub
I be high when I'm cruising sitting on them dubs

But I be low after shows in my dressing room
I be low when i see that I'm a different dude
I be low on the plane looking at the sky
I be low but my highs keep a nigga tied

[Chorus:]
I be high then I be low
I be low then I be high
It's like a battle knife to a gun fight
But I be cool this the story of my life
I be high then I be low
I be low then I be high
It's like a battle knife to a gun fight
No need to worry this the story of my life

I be low when I gotta get ready for work
I be low cus after bills my pockets be hurt
I be low when I can't take a girl out
I be low cus they can't even figure me out

But I be high when the phony chicks show me love
Cus in my mind I read them but I dont give a fuck
I be high when a nigga get attention
I be high when your girl catch feelings

Then I be low when I go into that empty space
I be low when I'm looking at a stressed face
I be low cus my brother's facing hard times
And I be low cus my nigga ryan close behind

Then I'm high when I know the places we can go
I be high when I think what the future holds
I be high when she asks for my room number
I be high but my lows keep a nigga humble

[Chorus]

I was high when the label said that I was dope
I was high in my eyes cus I had hope
I was high when I first had the taste of love
I was high when I left the city I was from

And I was low when I had a recent heartbreak
I was low cus I truly thought I had a mate
I was low when I lost her over sillyness
I was low cus she twisted what my words meant

But I was high when I finally had the chance to see
Everything thats pretty aint always good for me
I was high when she first said I liked you
Man I must be too high to even write dude
And these things show you growth
Some niggas show a little but I show you the most
Highs n' lows and succeed fo sho
The only thing left to do is say a toast
Cus

[Chorus]

Now won't you please say scotty lord,
Help me please, yeah, help me please
Now won't you please say scotty lord,
Won't you please, god, help me please

Jay - Z Can I Live

Darryl Pye
Humanitiies
Ms. Young

Favorite Hip Hop Song Ever

On the surface this seems like a much easir topic than it

actually is. The fact is 90% of my time I am listening to rap be it on

the radio, my ipod, or just some dude with street dreams so it is

hard to process just one so I broke it down. My favorite artists are

Jay-Z and Biggie. I was goin to pick juicy but I'm pretty sure that is

a universal favorite that a lot of people picked. So I decided to go

with the song "Can I Live" on Jay-z's Reasonable doubt album.

This is by far my favorite album and this was the first song I always

turned to. I think it is worthy of the best ever title because the

instrumental was one of the best smooth riding beats ever and the

lyrical content and metaphoric use in this song is unmatched and

honestly admirable. It breaks down the inner workings of a person

that has sturggled through poverty for years and now has escaped

the situation and is happy and ready to live his life. But people are

quick to place judgement on you and I think in this song he is

asking critics to hold the jury on him until he gets out his system

what he needs to after escaping conditions no one wan t to endure.

Its only natural to want to be able to do new things and more of the

old things you like when you are financially able to.

My mind is infested, with sick thoughts that circle
like a Lexus, if driven wrong it's sure to hurt you
Dual level like duplexes, in unity, my crew and me
commit atrocities like we got immunity
You guessed it, manifest it in tangible goods
Platinum Rolexed it, we don't lease
we buy the whole care, as you should
My confederation, dead a nation, EXPLODE
on detonation, overload the mind of a said patient
When it balls to steam, it comes to it
we all fiends gotta do it, even righteous minds go through this
True this, history school us to spend our money foolish
Bond with jewellers and, watch for intruders
I stepped it up another level, meditated like a buddhist
Recruited lieutenants with ludicrous, dreams of
gettin cream let's do this, it gets tedious
So I keep one eye open like, C-B-S, ya see me
stressed right? Can I live?

This is my favorite passage from the song he starts off by saying when you have
nothing and want everything your mind will wonder with many devious thoughts of how
to change your situation and he says they circle in you head and if you do the wrong thing
with those thoughts it can lead to your destruction. He says we commit atrocities or
horrible acts and act as if it's ok because we hav e a viable excuse of property but does
doesn't make us immune to God's raft. We usually celebrate the wrong doing and the
money that comes with it by manifesting it into something that your peers can see and
give you power, material things like jewelry and cars. He said our history meaning black
history and the values passed down from family or just people in the hood is to have the
most jewelry as he said bond with jewellers and watch for intruders. The intruders being
our own people who quickly get jealous and want what you have. So he says he stepped it
up and is on a different level of thinking than others and evaluates situations better and he
surrounded himself he said with lieutenants around him that shared his thinking and was
really about money and not the bs. He says let's get the money but it will be as tedious
tasks and he will keep one eye up basically meaning he won't ever let anyone catch him
sleeping on any front of the buisness he is trying to take care of.

This song is my favorite because it is more than just some lollipop dance and beat he
actually has a message like he alkways does and that is why Jay-z is my favorite and Can
I Live is my favorite song because we all just want to live our lives without getting
judged.

Lyrics to Crazy In Love ft Jay-Z by Beyonce

Yes! so crazy right now
Most incredibly
It's your girl b
It's your boy young
History in the makin
[part 2]

I look and stare so deep in your eyes
I touch on you more and more every time
When you leave i'm beggin you not to go
Call your name two, three times in a row
Such a funny thing for me to try to explain
How i'm feeling and my pride is the one to blame
Yeah, cause i know i don't understand
Just how your love can do what no on else can

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love's got me lookin so crazy right now
(your love)
Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch's
Got me lookin so crazy right now
(your touch)
Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss's
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love's got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love

When i talk to my friends so quietly
"who he think he is?" look at what you've done to me
Tennis shoes don't even need to buy a new dress
You ain't there, ain't nobody else to impress
It's the way that you know what i thought i knew
It's the beat that my heart skips when i'm with you
Yeah, but i still don't understand
Just how your love can do what no one else can

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love's got me lookin so crazy right now
(your love)
Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch's
Got me lookin so crazy right now
(your touch)
Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss's
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love's got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love

Stick boney but the pockets are fat like tony

Soprano the roc handle
Like van Exel
I shake phonies man, you can't get next to
A genuine article, i do not sing tho
I sling though , if anything i bling yo

Star like ringo
War like a green berret
You're crazy bring your whole set
Jay-z in the range
Crazy and deranged
They can't figure him out
They're like ãhey is he insane?ä

Yes sir i'm cut from a different cloth
My texture is the best fur, im chinchilla

I've been ill of the chain smokers
How you think i go the name hova
I've been reala'
The game's over

Fall back young ever since
I made you change over to platinum
The game's been a wrap
One

Got me looking so crazy, my baby
I'm not myself lately
I'm foolish, i don't do this
I've been playing myself
Baby i don't care
Cuz your love got the best of me
And baby you're making a fool of me
You got me sprung and i don't care who sees
Cuz baby you got me so crazy

Got me lookin so crazy right now
Your love's got me lookin so crazy right now

Got me lookin so crazy right now your touch's
Got me lookin so crazy right now

Got me hoping you page me right now your kiss's
Got me hoping you save me right now
Lookin so crazy your love's got me lookin
Got me lookin so crazy your love
[repeat to end]
