Artist v. Industry:Go What is real hip hop?

Nas said on a youtube clip "We Represent The Real Hip Hop" on his first album he had no celebrity appearances, so that made him the best lyricist. I took from that if a rapper claims he/she is a real writer you do not need another celebrity to help you make your own album stand out. A real hip hop artist makes his own music to make real hip hop. Real hip hop is telling about what you have been through and how you overcame it. When the lyrics are meaningful and it changes minds. Most hip hop we hear or see now is totally different from back in the '80's and '90's. Today's hip hop should be called "Hip Flop" because all you hear about is rappers bragging about how much they have and degrading women. Not to say it was not like that back in the day but most of the lyrics back then had meaning to it.
The lyrics is what makes hip hop controversial. Sometimes it can be arguable but touchy. Some hip hop has no type of style it is just here for the beat and that is all. Why do you listen to hip hop if it has no meaning? When I listen to it (some hip hop) I hear "realness", authenticity. An artist is real if he relates his music to real life: what he has been through and also relates to the people.
